Jo, an adaptation of Little Women by Kathleen Gross, is a graphic novel based on the original Little Women but is a modern retelling and follows the story of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy as they navigate school and life. I found that this story, while an easy read, mainly focuses on Jo and the different activities she does throughout the book.
Throughout the book, she has to cope with her father being on an overseas secret mission, her mother being a nurse who works over time and the fact that her sister is finishing her final round of maintenance therapy after fighting cancer. One of her Year 8 goals for herself is to join the school newspaper as she wants to be more serious with her writing. But that’s not all. When Laurie, the boy next door, expresses he has feelings for Jo, things become complicated. Feelings that Jo doesn’t have for him… or for any boy. Feelings she’s never shared with anyone before. Feelings that Jo might have for Freddie…
This is a really good book for anyone interested in a book without any fantasy.
I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 as in general, it was really good and it was a simple read.
