So, what is Nimona?
“Nimona follows a knight in a futuristic medieval world who’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit, and the only one who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona — a mischievous teen who happens to be a shapeshifting creature he’s sworn to destroy.” (Netflix, 2023)
We’re going to start off with a few questions. Firstly, how many people reading this have Netflix? Secondly, how many of you, when scrolling through your recommended movies have seen Nimona pop up? And finally, how many of you actually clicked in and watched it? Well, if you have, you should recognise the description. If not, well strap in, because this is CHAOTIC.
What makes this movie better than others?
This movie has everything, and we mean EVERYTHING. From emotional trainwreck moments to hilariously funny moments, to second hand embarrassment there is never a dull scene. It is actually based on a webcomic/book by ND Stevenson, who is the creator of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and the co-creator of the Lumberjanes comics.
What’s the plot of the movie?
The plot of this movie is basically this: Nimona is a shape-shifting entity who feels alone in the world until she meets Ballister, an ex-knight who is also alone after being framed for killing the queen. Nimona and Ballister team up to clear his name and help him become a knight again. They run into some problems however when Ballister’s boyfriend, who is currently an important knight of the realm, tries to catch them. We won’t reveal the ending, but we promise you that it is well worth the wait.
What’s your favourite scene in the movie?
Eleanor: My favourite scene in the movie is the scene where Ballister and Nimona are playing World Domination (Basically Monopoly). I won’t reveal what happens, but all I will say is that the board was only MILDLY scorched.
Claudia: My personal favourite is the scene where Nimona and Ballister have to run away from the knights and Nimona gets kindaaaaa hurt. It’s very funny and introduces us to how Nimona’s past has influenced her outlook on life.
So, what do we rate it?
Eleanor – I would rate this movie 4.5/5. Although I absolutely loved it, I believe that they omitted a few of the best scenes in the book, such as the scene where they blow up the institution’s research lab. But still, I highly recommend both the book and the movie.
Claudia- I would rate it 4.8/5. It is a very good movie and while it doesn’t have all of the original scenes it is still very good and I would HIGHLY recommend it. Even with the disappointing lack of ferrets.
