At lunch on November 9th, Iris Leach Dowe and Claire Sonnek went head to head in a staring contest that left the entire library holding its breath. It began with a bang, with Iris and Claire springing forward in their chairs, eyes wide open. They held eye contact for almost ten seconds before Iris flicked her hand up in front of Claire’s face, forcing her to blink.
Witnesses called the contest “intense, more intense than anything I’ve ever seen before,“ and were on the edge of their seats for all nine rounds of the contest. The record time was twenty-eight seconds, and the word “blink!” was heard several times. In the end, they decided on a tie, however they continued to argue about the result.
“I think I won,” said Claire during their post-contest debate.
“I disagree,” said Iris, immediately afterward.
Who can say if this dynamic duo will return for another competition…
