What goes into writing a song? Is there a word or a phrase that kick-starts the writing process?

Lara: Usually it is a word, and then we have to go into production, so we sit there with my producer, me and my dad, and we sit there and we play with  instruments and sounds and synths and everything. [Then] we decide the sound we like and usually spend six months to over a year on each song. Once it’s produced, it has to be mixed, so that’s refined production. [After that] it has to be sent off to London to get mastered, which is sound level quality. Then it get sent back to us and we have to put it through a music distributor, who puts [the song] out on every streaming platform, and then there’s promotion and all that.

Is it annoying that music you made a year ago still isn’t finished?

L: Yeah, my next song to come out I wrote in 2019, which is exciting.

Are we getting an album?

L: That isn’t happening anymore (sorry to break it to you, folks), maybe an EP though.

You are so successful, and at such a young age. What advice do you have for anyone wanting to follow in your footsteps, pursuing music or just any similar career?

L: Just keep going, and if you want to be writing songs, it doesn’t matter how bad they are at the start. My first couple songs were terrible. They were actually terrible. But you know, if you just keep going, they’ll eventually get better and they’ll get to the stage you want them to be. Don’t care what people think, I got a lot of negative comments when I first started.

Where do you think your passion for music started?

L: I’ve just been doing music my entire life, I reckon there’s nothing that really sticks out as a core memory. I guess it’s always just performing, mainly, always singing, or dancing or acting, I’ve always been doing that, and I literally couldn’t live without any of that. It’s always been there.

Who do you think your musical inspiration is?

L: Halsey, Halsey and… Halsey. My main inspiration is definitely Halsey, then it’s Tate McRae and NF. NF is amazing. Those three are my biggest inspirations. But yeah, Halsey.

What is your favourite song you’ve written?

L: My favourite song that I’ve written? I like one of the songs I wrote called ‘Floating.’

Do you have any unpopular music opinions?

L: Miley Cyrus is underrated, like severely. Especially her new album.

If you had to give one, your top three favourite artists of all time?

L: Ok, Halsey, NF and the third one… probably Paramore

Who would you want to collab with?

L: Halsey.

Number 1 artist on spotitfy?

L: Halsey.

What’s your favourite Halsey song?

L: All of them, but if i could pick three from each album this is it. From her first album, ‘Colours’ is incredible, ‘Strange Love’ is really good on that album, and ‘Ghosts’  because it was her first song. Second album, which is hopeless fountain kingdom, ‘Bad at Love’, ‘Hopeless’ and… oh there’s too many… ‘Strangers.’ Then her most recent one, ‘I’m not mad,’ ‘Without Me,’ and ‘killing boys.’ And then she has an album coming out on the 22nd and she’s releasing a film with it.

Who is the song about stabbing the boy inspired by?

L: Um, multiple boys. One  of their names started with a J, so that’s self- explanatory

Did you stab them?

L: No, I shouldve.

Did you feel like stabbing them?

L: Oh yes, that’s why I wrote the song.
