Drumroll please, for the annual CBCA Book Week, and CGGS is back with more celebratory activities than ever before! Dreaming with eyes open is the theme for 2022. A week of delights is ahead of us, with an Interactive Eye Library display and a Book Review writing competition hosted all week round.

The schedule: Monday lunchtime is dedicated wholeheartedly to dreaming with eyes open, as students will design bookmarks inspired by, and honouring the theme. Get your dance mode on, because reading isn’t all about sitting down: Tuesday’s tutor group session is in for a treat with a dance/book activity. Some dread it, some love it, and it’s happening anyway, Wednesday lunchtime will be presenting the ultimate Spelling Bee. The student body wishes those brave souls good luck! During Thursday lunch, a Book Swap fundraising for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation will commence, so remember to bring a book, preferably not one you desperately want to remove from your house. Finally, Friday will host Spine Poetry during lunch. For those unacquainted with the activity, Spine Poetry utilises words from book spines in a stacked formation to present a form of poetry.

A special activity will be organised for Year 7 (lucky ducks), where a senior executive is to read to students during reading lessons.

However, book week isn’t just about literature-inspired revelry. The CBCA awards recognise and commend the best books of the year, and our library currently has many of the marvelous novels in its selection. If interested, I highly recommend popping in to see the CBCA books on display, or ask a librarian for a recommendation!

In any case, if one is a head-over-heels adorer of books, or someone who just appreciates the cover art, Book Week is for all students and everyone should feel free and welcome to participate. We need never be subdued of our spirit!
