Pyramids of Giza

The Pyramids of Giza are one of the most impressive wonders on Earth. Residing in Egypt, the Pyramids are one of the only ancient wonders that are still in good condition. Wonders such as the Great Wall or the Temple of Artemis have already started or are continuing to erode. The Pyramids are located in Cairo and consist of three amazing structures, The Khufu, The Khafre and The Menkaure. Three Pyramids which were named after famous Egyptian Kings. The Khufu is also known as ‘The Cheops’ or ‘The Great Pyramid’. Recently, there has been an impressive discovery in the Pyramids of Giza. At the beginning of the year, 2023, archeologists discovered a new chamber in Khufu. This new chamber was 9 metres (30ft) in length and more than 6 ft wide, dating back 4500 years ago. 

The Pyramids of Giza consist of 3 pyramids that are estimated to be five thousand years old or more. Ancient Egyptians built the Pyramids in their fourth dynasty and were arguably one of the greatest civilisations in that time. Egyptologists believe that the lower classes of Egypt such as peasant farmers and slaves built the Pyramids, but nothing can be proved so far. 

The history of the Pyramids is interesting. It is believed that the ancient Egyptians ferried large stone blocks made to build the Pyramids along the Nile. The inside of the Pyramid of Khufu features three known chambers that housed the king’s sarcophagus along with his treasures. Three smaller queen’s pyramids and two boat pits are also associated with Khufu. The King buried inside the Khafre, the second largest pyramid has been ransacked from his treasures and the mummy inside the sarcophagus had gone with them. It was revealed that tourists and farmers had been taking remains since the 14th century.
