New 2022 CGGS Soccer Program

AUTHOR: SOPHIE BUCKLAND

Soccer season started this term, with the CGGS senior school participating with two soccer teams: the U14s and U18s, both Div 2. We get out there to exercise and have fun with friends, regardless of how well the games go. You may have noticed the new sign at school outside the driveway where buses come after school, advertising the new coaches the school has hired. Football Star Academy is certainly an improvement over previous coaches, with players on the U18 team commenting that “they’re slay vibes” and that “there has been great improvement over our three games.”

However, all good things come at a price. The dramatic increase in fees for the professional coaches means players have to pay a lot more for the season. According to Ms Hadden, the organising teacher in charge of the school’s soccer teams, the extra fees are “set by the FSA for their quality coaches, and also includes umpires, uniforms, Capital Football registration fees, facility hire and equipment.”

Training now occurs twice a week, on Monday afternoons and Thursday mornings, the latter a time everyone was apprehensive about, but are actually finding quite fun. But how is the team actually doing? Well, with only a few games played, there isn’t a real indication. But the team is having fun and the U18s won their first game last Saturday!
